Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy

The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) provide individuals with a right of access to certain records and personal information under the custody or control of institutions covered by the FIPPA and MFIPPA.

We represent municipalities and other public institutions in requests for access to information under FIPPA and MIFPPA. We assist institutions in processing access requests under the prescribed timelines, including notices to affected parties, time extensions, fee estimates, claims of exemptions or exclusions, decision notices, etc. We act on behalf of institutions on mediations and appeals before the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.

We also represent individuals, corporations and businesses who are making or affected by a request for access to information under FIPPA and MIFPPA. We act on behalf of requesters and affected third parties during the access for information process, as well as mediations and appeals before the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.
