Articling Program
Autonomy. Support. Opportunity.
Loopstra Nixon’s articling program.
The best and the brightest come to our firm with the hopes of finding a professional home and building a career. We hire for firm fit and seek out those who are results-driven, goal-oriented, and business-minded. Our articling program aims to provide students with hands-on experience in the practice of law, nurture their talent, and help them find their passion. During the articling term, students will work with our lawyers and our clients side by side, experiencing and taking part in our exceptional client service experience. We work with our students to build client service skills and ensure that there is a consistent standard of service across the board.
Mentorship is important to us at Loopstra Nixon. For our articling students, we will work with you to develop your areas of interest and ensure that you get a broad range of experience in various areas of practice and that your client service skills are honed. To us, our clients are always front and center, which is why we work with you to master those client service expectations and live up to them. We help prepare you for life as a practicing lawyer.

STUDENT FAQ’s
WHAT DOES THE ARTICLING PROGRAM ENTAIL?
During the articling term, you can expect to be involved in four rotations:
- Corporate and Commercial | Bankruptcy | Real Estate
- Municipal & Insurance Litigation
- Municipal, Land Use Planning & Development
- Commercial Litigation
We incorporate this rotation to increase exposure to a variety of legal issues and professional styles. We want to ensure that students come away having gained experience in all areas of practice. We also know that many students are decisive in their approach and have a keen interest in specific areas of law. We will work with you to help you flourish in those areas.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF I’M BEING REHIRED?
Performance assessments are undertaken at regular intervals during the articling term and the results are reviewed with the student. This is in addition to the formal evaluation of the Experiential Training Plan required by the Law Society of Ontario. When associate lawyers are hired by the firm, primary consideration is given to our articling students. Students who demonstrate both strong academic abilities and very good interpersonal skills are best positioned to be considered for rehiring.
WHAT IS THE CULTURE LIKE AT LOOPSTRA NIXON?
The atmosphere within the firm is very collegial, which facilitates the development of strong professional and personal relationships. A big part of success in law comes through informal interaction. Accordingly, we schedule special lunches, parties, and evening social events for our lawyers, students and staff. A subsidized health club membership is also available to our students.
WHAT WILL BE MY SALARY?
Salaries paid to students at the firm are equal to those of top Toronto firms. Students receive two weeks paid vacation during their articles and are given a comprehensive benefit package. Tuition for the Bar Admission course will be reimbursed to the student upon commencement of articles.
